Sanmat began its journey in 2007, born from the passion of two engineers, Amit Kumar Choubey and Nitesh Kumar, who were driven to make a difference after witnessing the devastating impact of the Chennai tsunami. What started as a mission to provide immediate relief quickly grew into something more. Within just a year, Sanmat was managing four hospitals across Tamil Nadu, bringing essential healthcare to underserved communities.
But the founders knew that to create lasting, meaningful change, they needed to go deeper. Amit, recognizing the complexities of sustainable development, pursued an M.A. in Governance at the University of Sussex. Armed with this new knowledge and perspective, he returned to India, ready to expand Sanmat’s mission in Bihar-East Champaran region. While working there, the team saw the gap between well-intentioned government policies and the people they were designed to help. They realized that the real challenge wasnโt just in creating programs, but in ensuring that existing policies and constitutionally legislated rights reached the people who needed them most.
Sanmatโs early focus became clear: bridging this implementation gap. One of our first key initiatives was helping deserving students access 100% scholarships, ensuring their right to education wasnโt just a promise on paper but a reality in their lives.
This was just the beginning. Our journey is defined by these milestones, and the timeline ahead is filled with stories of impact, innovation, and transformation.
